Iran Press/ Iran news: Speaking at the ACD meeting, Iran's deputy foreign minister Gholam Hussein Dehghani called on member states to strengthen their cooperation, especially in areas such as transportation and transit of goods, communications technology, digital technology, and energy.
The Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) is an inter-governmental organization created in 2002 to promote Asian cooperation at a continental level. A ministerial meeting of the ACD was held on Saturday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.
Dehghani also called for strengthening of economic and commercial ties between ACD member states, and the use of local currencies (instead of the US dollar) in all commercial transactions and trade.
In further remarks, Dehghani called for inter-organizational dialogue between ACD and other regional organizations such as ECO, IORA, ASEAN, SAARC and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Dehghani also referred to an earlier proposal by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, for a regional Forum for Dialogue in the Persian Gulf, saying the proposal is still on the table and can help ACD achieve its objectives.
The Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) is an inter-governmental organization created on 18 June 2002 to promote Asian cooperation at a continental level and to help integrate separate regional organizations such as ASEAN, SAARC, the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the EurAsian Economic Union.
The Islamic Republic of Iran joined the organization in 2004, and currently there are 35 member states of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) .
