US Treasury Secretary claimed increased tensions with Iran as a sign of the US administration's so-called successful approach toward Iran.

Iran press/America: US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin allegedly claimed on Sunday that increased tensions with Iran show that the Donald Trump administration's approach to pressuring Tehran with sanctions is working.

The US Treasury Secretary said that increased tensions with Iran show that the Trump administration's approach to pressuring Tehran with sanctions is working, reported The Hill.

"Tensions are worse because it's working," Mnuchin said on CNN's 'State of the Union.'

Mnuchin's remarks came as US President imposed sanctions on Iran's central bank on September 20, 2019.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, Donald Trump did not provide any other details about the sanctions which came after the Trump administration accused Iran of being responsible for the attacks on two Saudi Aramco oil facilities that knocked out more than half the kingdom’s production.

Trump spoke to reporters at the White House in Washington, DC alongside visiting Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told reporters at the White House that the bank was Tehran's last source of funds.

Yemen's Houthi fighters have claimed responsibility for the attack on the Saudi oil facilities, but the United States has rejected the claim with Trump saying that Iran appears to be responsible for the strike.

Tehran, however, dismissed the allegation, saying Washington seems to be shifting from a failed campaign of 'maximum pressure' to one of 'maximum lying' and 'deceit' against the Islamic Republic.

Furthermore, on the very same day, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran said that the so-called new round of sanctions imposed on the bank by the US government shows how empty-handed is the White House in finding leverage against Iran.

Abdolnaser Hemmati said on Friday evening that if such measures could have been effective in pushing the cruel desires of the US government, Iran's economy would have been in a very different situation.

"The repeated failures of the US government over the past two years indicate that the sanctions on Iran have become ineffective more than ever, spurring economic resilience instead," Hemmati added.
