Pakistan premier, Imran Khan has said that Islamabad and Tehran have good relations, adding his country is seeking to strengthen its cooperation with Iran.

Iran Press/Asia: Imran Khan noted the good relations between Pakistan and Iran and added that Islamabad is seeking to expand ties with Tehran.

 Any incident in Afghanistan will affect the border areas of Pakistan too. Pakistan is seeking a quiet area and in this regard needs to cooperate with Iran, Imran Khan made the remarks at the 'Belt and Road' forum in Beijing, China, Iran Press reported.

China hosted some 5,000 delegates from across the globe at a 2nd "Belt and Road Forum" in Beijing last week to discuss the signature infrastructure project to rebuild ancient trading routes across Eurasia.

In other parts of his speech, Pakistani Premier said that Iran and Pakistan have suffered the most amount of losses because of insecurity in Afghanistan and one of the common goals of the two countries could be close cooperation for establishing stability in Afghanistan.

Economic prosperity in Pakistan will not be achieved in the absence of stability and security in the region, Khan added.

Pakistani PM also highlighted Islamabad's resolve to prevent militant groups from carrying out terrorist acts against other countries from Pakistani soil.

Imran Khan remarks delivered after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced the signing of an agreement on the formation of a rapid reaction force to confront the terrorist groups between Iran and Pakistan.

Pakistan prime minister's visit to Tehran on April 22 came at a critical time when the two sides can take advantage of vast opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Imran Khan’s official visit to Iran was to fortify Pakistan-Iran relations and call for unity between the two countries. He had formal meetings with Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani and a number of other senior officials and businesspersons.

According to the joint statement issued on April 23 after the conclusion of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's two-day official visit to Iran, both sides reiterated the importance of deepening and reinforcing bilateral ties based on principles of national interest, territorial integrity and mutual respect for national sovereignty.

They called for the swift implementation of bilateral agreements as a step towards realizing this important goal, IRNA reported.

On 25 April, Pakistan Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Mohammad Faisal said his country is committed to cooperating with Iran in relation to a joint gas project.105/211/205
