Turkish President says, his country will not “surrender” to the US under the sanctions imposed by the United States over the detention of an American pastor.

Iran Press/Asia:  Accusing Washington of launching an “attempted economic coup” against Ankara ,Recep Tayyip Erdogan added,“Today some people are trying to threaten us through the economy, through interest rates, foreign exchange, investment and inflation. We are telling them: we’ve seen your games, and we are challenging you."

Erdogan further said that his country would never bow before those “who set up their own order by exploiting the world.”

He also said,“We did not and will not surrender to those who act like a strategic partner but make us a strategic target,”

The Turkish lira has already lost about 30 percent of its value against the US dollar since the beginning of August, when tensions between the two NATO allies soared unprecedentedly over the detention of Andrew Brunson, an American Christen pastor, in Turkey over terror-related charges.

Brunson, who ran a small church in Turkey for more than 20 years, was arrested in December 2016 over allegations of having helped a group that Ankara says was behind a failed military coup in July 2016.

Tensions between the two countries have also risen due to an Izmir court’s refusal to release the US missionary Andrew Brunson, who was arrested in October of 2016 for reportedly playing a role in that year’s failed coup attempt. Washington has introduced sanctions against members of the Turkish government, citing the case and insisting that the pastor is innocent.
