Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has said Turkey will soon start boycotting the US-made electronic products.

Iran Press-Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an announced on Tuesday Aug. 14. that Turkey will start boycotting the United States-made electronic products.

"Turkey has one of the most solid banking systems in the world in all respects," Erdo?an said during a symposium in Ankara to mark the 16th anniversary of the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) foundation.

Slamming U.S. sanctions on Turkey over the arrest of Pastor Andrew Brunson, Turkish President said Ankara faces an "economic attack. reported Turkey's  Hürriyet Daily News.

"We can do two things; one in economy, the other in politics. We have taken measures that economy needs and we will keep doing it ... What is more important, I think, is keeping our political stance strong," he added.

About the boycott, Erdo?an said: "We will boycott America's electronic products. If they have the iPhone, there is also Samsung on the other side. We also have our own Venus Vestel. We will adopt these measures."

Switching to foreign currency would mean giving in to the enemy, Erdo?an added.

The Turkish lira has lost about 40 percent this year alone, largely over worries about Erdogan’s influence over the economy, his repeated calls for lower interest rates in the face of high inflation and deteriorating ties with the United States.

The two governments have been at odds over a wide range of topics - from diverging interests in Syria, to Turkey’s ambition to buy Russian defence systems, and the case of evangelical pastor Andrew Brunson, who is on trial in Turkey on terrorism charges.
