The United States has once more threatened military action against Iran, saying military action is possible if US sanctions against Tehran fail.

Iran Press/America: Speaking at a press conference at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, US special representative for Iran, Brian Hook said the military option is on the table, but our preference is to use all of the tools that are at our disposal diplomatically.

According to an Iran Press report, Brian Hook added: "We have been very clear with the Iranian regime that we will not hesitate to use military force when our interests are threatened. I think they understand that. I think they understand that very clearly."

US President Donald Trump is threatening Iran with hardship "the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before."

Trump entered the White House promising to take a more aggressive approach to Iran than his predecessor, Barack Obama, whose administration negotiated the landmark nuclear deal with Tehran along with Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany.

Trump pulled the US out of the landmark nuclear agreement in May and pledged to impose the most crippling sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

The first round of American sanctions took effect in August, targeting Iran's access to the US dollar, metals trading, coal, industrial software, and auto sector.

The second round of sanctions, aimed at Iran's oil industry, came into effect on November 5.
