Iran Press/ Middle East: Taha Motewakil said on Friday that the shut-down of three oxygen-production factories due to lack of fuel has put thousands of Yemeni patients' lives at risk.
Expressing concern over the secession of the hospitals' ICUs and emergencies as well as laboratories' activities due to power outages, Motewakil noted the lack of sufficient fuel will thwart efforts to combat the outbreak of the Coronavirus in quarantine areas in different provinces.
He blamed the crimes on the Saudi regime and said that the blockade on Yemen still continues, and the Saudi coalition has created serious problems for hospitals and medical centers by preventing ships from carrying fuel from entering the port of Al-Hudaidah.
The Yemeni Health Minister called on the international community and bodies for urgent aids, urging them to pressure the Saudi coalition to release the oil tankers, remarking that since the UN inspects the ships there remains no excuses for seizing them.
Half of Yemen’s health facilities are dysfunctional and 18% of the country’s 333 districts have no doctors. Water and sanitation systems have collapsed resulting in recurrent cholera outbreaks. Around 9.6 million children do not have sufficient access to safe water, sanitation, or hygiene and two-thirds of the country’s roughly 30 million people rely on food assistance.
Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing Ansarullah.
The war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.
