Tabriz (IP) - Azerbaijanis get ready for their traditional rituals to celebrate the longest night of the year, known as Yalda.

One of the oldest ceremonies common in the Azerbaijan region is the Yalda Night. Preparation for this memorable night starts a few days before.

Giving gifts to children, especially newlyweds, is common for Tabrizians and other people of East Azerbaijan province at the night.

Buying watermelons and red fruits such as red apples and pomegranates, nuts, special halwa, walnuts, and chocolates are other things the people of East Azerbaijan buy for Yalda night. Going to the house of the elders and talking about the memories of the grandparents, sitting around Korsi talking to the relatives are the other customs of the people of East Azarbaijan province on Yalda night.
