On Thursday evening, a violent incident occurred in the Palestinian village of Jit, located in the occupied West Bank, where over 100 Israeli settlers attacked the community, resulting in the death of a Palestinian citizen and severe injuries to another.

Iran PressIran news: The attack involved the use of firearms, stones, and Molotov cocktails, leading to the destruction of four homes and six vehicles owned by Palestinians. Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli forces provided protection to the settlers during the assault and prevented Palestinian civil defense teams from responding to the fires.

According to the Palestinian health ministry, the deceased was a young man in his early twenties, identified as Rashid Mahmoud Sada, who succumbed to gunshot wounds.

Another individual sustained critical injuries during the attack. The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) stated they were investigating the incident and confirmed that one Israeli settler was apprehended during the chaos.

Videos shared on social media depicted the aftermath of the attack, showing homes and vehicles engulfed in flames, with smoke billowing over the village.

The level of violence was so high that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog were forced to condemn the violence in a "symbolic act."

Herzog described the settlers' actions as a "pogrom".

Despite witness reports that the Israeli army supported the settlers and prevented Palestinians from extinguishing the fire, there has been condemnation of the incident.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from various entities:

The White House described the attacks by "violent settlers" as "unacceptable" and called for Israeli authorities to take measures to protect all communities and hold the perpetrators accountable.

The EU has also expressed concern over the increasing violence from settlers and has previously imposed sanctions on certain settler leaders as part of a broader response to such incidents.

The Palestinian resistance group condemned the attack, labeling it a criminal act and calling for a response against the settlers. They emphasized that the bloodshed would not be in vain and would serve as a curse upon the occupation.

This incident is part of a troubling trend of escalating violence in the West Bank, particularly following the outbreak of conflict in Gaza in October 2023. Reports indicate that more than 600 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured in related violence during this period. The situation remains tense as international bodies continue to monitor developments in the region.
