Leader’s top military adviser:

Tehran (IP)- Top military adviser to the Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution believes that the war in Ukraine has reduced the power of the United States, NATO and Europe.

Iran PressIran News: Major-General Yahya Rahim Safavi, a top military adviser to the Leader of Islamic Revolution says that the Ukraine conflict benefits China much more than any other country while the power shifts from the west towards the east.

"This war has reduced the power of the United States, NATO and Europe, but Russia has also suffered, while the greatest damage to Russia has taken place in world public opinion and the power of Russian public diplomacy," Major-General Yahya Rahim Safavi said on Wednesday in a seminar attended by military commanders as well as university professors.

The military adviser further said that the sanctions imposed on Moscow by the West would come at a cost for both Russia and the western side themselves, including the United States and Europe.

Maj. General Safavi also predicted a brighter future for Iran saying that in the year ahead, many opportunities will be available to Tehran that have to use with smart diplomacy. 

"We must plan and act with a strategic and comprehensive thinking in economic, political, cultural and security dimensions to make Iran stronger by using regional and global opportunities," he concluded.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing two Russia-backed regions in eastern Ukraine, the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics in the Donbas region, as independent criticizing the West for ignoring Moscow's security concerns.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an early morning televised address that he had launched a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. The war between Russia and Ukraine continues.

Major-General Yahya Rahim Safavi added: "Since the end of World War II in 1945, the European Union has never experienced such a mess.

Saying that Russia considers the territories of the Soviet Union to be part of its national security environment, General Safavid stated: "After the collapse of the Soviet Union, contrary to Russia's policies, almost all former Soviet countries such as Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, which border Russia, gradually joined NATO and now 30 countries are members of NATO."

Analyzing the reasons for the start of the Russia-Ukraine war and the reasons for Ukraine's geostrategic sensitivities to Russia, he underlined: "If they deploy missile systems, air defenses, and weapons in Ukraine, Russia would be under serious threat, so its view of Ukraine is based on its national security."

The former commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps( IRGC) stated: "In addition to the geostrategic view, Russia also has a historical view of Ukraine because Tsarist Russia was first formed in Kyiv.
