Iran press/Iran news: "As you know Iranians suffered a lot during the floods because sending aid was impossible due to the sanctions imposed against us, the sanctions hindered our efforts to repair helicopters, because the needed spare parts must have been imported from abroad," Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Secretary-General Mahmoud Reza Peyravi noted.
He made the remarks in a press conference held in Tehran over humanitarian aid for flood-hit people, according to an Iran press report.
Peyravi added: "We must clear out the vague points about the process of sending help to flood-hit people. Some countries were unable to send their cash via banks over the sanctions, but we thanked them all," IRCS Secretary-General added.
"We also get non-financial help from many countries, including Germany, Turkey, Kuwait, Sweden, Japan, and many others," Mahmoud Reza Peyravi concluded.
Relentless rain and flooding throughout Iran has left some 2 million people facing a humanitarian crisis. 25 of 31 Iranian provinces have been affected, and over 76 people have lost their lives.
On Apr 03, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani strongly criticized the United States for blocking international aid to the flood-stricken people of Iran, describing America's behavior as criminal, chiding the US for "an unprecedented crime".
Iranian Vice President for Legal Affairs, Laya Joneydi said the country is legally pursuing the United States’ move to block the flow of cash aid to flood victims in the Islamic Republic. 101/211/201
