Iran Press/ Asia: In an interview with Iran Press in Kabul, Karim Khurram spoke about the roots of the recent developments in Afghanistan and explained: "The US goal in Afghanistan was to fight terrorism, drug trafficking, and establish democracy and the rule of law, but terrorism grew during the US presence in Afghanistan."
He noted that the ISIS terror group was formed in Afghanistan during the US presence.
He said the Americans would not leave Afghanistan completely after 20 years, during which time the United States had inherited terrorism and lawlessness for Afghans.
Regarding the US goal of forming a peace negotiation process with the Taliban, he stated: "The US move has been a new form of continuing their presence in Afghanistan, and the US is moving forward with its plans."
Regarding the formation of new Taliban movements in Afghanistan, Khurram highlighted: "The US approach to fighting against terrorism has strengthened the Taliban, and the US has massacred innocent Afghan people in the name of fight against terrorism."
He pointed out that the Taliban had withdrawn from the war after September 11, but after the Americans entered Afghanistan, they persecuted the Taliban who had left the war, and these US actions strengthened the Taliban; the Americans eventually gave the Taliban a political face by signing an agreement and forming peace talks in Doha.
He also spoke about the people's trust in the Afghan government, saying that some of the Afghan government's actions, including violations of the constitution, have deteriorated the situation in the country.
He said the Afghan government also allowed the United States to negotiate with the Taliban as an independent force and eventually sign an agreement with the group. The Afghan government is responsible for the current situation in Afghanistan.
Regarding the importance of Afghanistan's relations with its neighbors and the enemies' efforts to destroy them, the former Afghan minister of information and culture underlined: "The United States does not want Afghanistan to strengthen its relations with its neighbors; rather, it wants Afghanistan to be completely dependent on the US."
He added that Afghanistan's relations with neighboring countries and the region should be strengthened. Now the level of these relations is not as expected, and Afghanistan's neighbors know that the US goal is beyond Afghanistan.
He explained that the Taliban could not ignore the importance of neighboring countries. In such a situation, the Afghan government should strengthen its relations with its neighbors because US policy is not currently achieving peace in Afghanistan.
He stressed that if the Afghan government wants to resolve the crisis in Afghanistan, it must cooperate seriously and constructively with its neighbors in achieving peace in Afghanistan.
