Iran Press/ Middle East: A member of the Iraqi parliament and a representative of the Sadeghon Fraction said that the US embassy in Baghdad through its political means intervenes in the process of choosing the next Iraqi Prime Minister.
According to Mohammad Al-Baldavi, the US embassy tries to achieve a position to maintain its troops in Iraq by intervening in the election of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Iran Press reported.
Emphasizing that consensus between Iraqi Shiite political blocs, curbs the US interference and pressure in favor of the presence of occupation forces in Iraq, Al-Baldavi added: “Washington is seeking to choose a person who would agree to the continued presence of the US troops in Iraq.”
The US military presence in Iraq has become a hot-button issue in the country since a US drone bombed and assassinated top Iraqi and Iranian military commanders near Baghdad international airport on Friday 3 January 2020. 207
