IP - The Iranian and Qatari parties talked about the construction phases of the longest submarine tunnel in the world which is to be operationalized between the two countries.

Iran PressIran news: Qatar's Ambassador to Tehran Saad Abdullah Saad Al Mahmoud Al-Sharif met with Iran's First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref on Saturday about the joint submarine project.

Aref emphasized the importance of building the world's longest submarine tunnel between Iran and Qatar and said that Iran will send a specialized working group for preliminary studies to Doha in the coming weeks.

On June 5, 2017, four Arab countries namely Egypt, UAE, and Bahrain, led by Saudi Arabia, severed their diplomatic relations with Qatar and practically put this country under siege.

After a short period of time, countries such as Libya, Maldives, Senegal, Jordan, and Mauritania published an announcement according to which the land, sea, and air routes of their neighbors with Qatar were blocked and the small peninsula in the Persian Gulf went into a mandatory quarantine.

The colluder's pretext was that the Emir of Qatar called Iran a great power in the region and a protector of regional stability and that Hamas was the representative of the Palestinian nation.

The submarine tunnel project suggests that Qatar seeks to be connected to the world via Iran and prefers to make a heavy investment for the corridor; a project the initial studies of which are underway.

The tunnel can give Iran a new ground border with Qatar while having an important impact on the trade and the transit of goods between the two countries.

Qatar's participation in the development of Dayyer Port in Iran, cooperation in the field of energy, especially electricity, the creation of a chain of assistance between Iran and Qatar, the construction of a submarine tunnel between the two countries, and the reopening of the Qatari Consulate General in Shiraz were among the most important areas of cooperation Qatar's ambassador to Tehran pointed to, for his part, in the meeting.
