Iran Press/America: In a message, Majid Takht-Ravanchi wrote on his Twitter account on Monday that "US's contempt for international law has reached a new low."
Describing the United States as the violator of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and UNSC resolution 2231, Takht-Ravanchi added that the US government "deliberately misinterprets 2231 & threatens UN members—including its closest allies—for standing up to bullying."
Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wrote in a Twitter message that after the failure of the Security Council in its mission to maintain peace and security, the United States announced the 30-day return process of all UN sanctions against Iran.
He claimed that the sanctions will return at midnight on September 20 (Shahrivar 30) Greenwich Mean Time.
On August 20, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo notified the United Nations that Washington was initiating the process to reinstate all UN sanctions on Iran.
Thirteen council members expressed their opposition on Friday, arguing that Washington’s move is void given it is using a process agreed under a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers that it quit two years ago, according to Reuters.
Under the JCPOA, the state parties - Russia, the US, the UK, China, France, and Germany - can trigger a snapback mechanism to reimpose sanctions on Iran if Tehran violates the deal. Washington left the JCPOA in 2018.
