The decision by the Syrian Ministry of Education to reform certain curricula amidst reactions to the reforms and the extent of the current government's right to implement educational changes has sparked widespread controversy among citizens and teachers in Syria.
Several teachers and activists gathered on Sunday evening in front of the Ministry of Education headquarters in Damascus, the capital of Syria, to protest the reforms in the educational programs across all academic levels.
The reforms announced by the Syrian Ministry of Education primarily involve removing the subject of national education from the curricula of all educational levels in Syria.
Demonstrators outside the Syrian Ministry of Education also emphasized the necessity for the current government to adhere to the limits of its temporary role and commit to this until the establishment of a "national unity government."
