Iran Press/ Iran news: "The visit to Syria, which is aimed at negotiating and consulting with high-ranking Syrian officials to strengthen bilateral, regional and international cooperation, is being done at the official invitation of the country," Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf told the reporters in Tehran before starting his trip to Syria.
Heading a parliamentary delegation, Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf traveled to Syria on Tuesday.
"This trip comes after the successful Syrian elections in which Bashar al-Assad won," the parliament speaker added.
Ghalibaf described the trip as an opportunity to expand economic, political, and cultural relations with Syria.
"As the security threats against Syria come to an end and the country seeks economic development, the two countries can use this opportunity to develop economic relations in both the public sector the private sector between the two countries' businessmen," he noted.
He said that he was scheduled to discuss the bilateral issues with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his counterpart Hammouda Sabbagh.
Ghalibaf said he was also scheduled to meet Iranian business people living in Syria and Syrian business people and had scheduled detailed meetings in the area between the two countries' chambers of commerce.
"Based on the comprehensive agreement signed between the two governments of Iran and Syria, we will have serious negotiations, which, of course, will be approved by the parliaments of the two countries in the near future," he stressed.
"Syria's position is an exceptional opportunity to develop our country's trade and to get closer to the markets of Europe and the Mediterranean. Also, there are great opportunities in the industry, agriculture, tourism, and especially oil," the speaker said.
In the end, he expressed hope that this trip would be a basis to create new opportunities for business people and the beginning of more cooperation in economics, politics, and culture.
