Iran Press/Middle East: Al-Jaafari, during a UN Security Council session on the status of Syria, added that many countries, some of them permanent members of the UN Security Council, claim commitment to the humanitarian situation in Syria while they support terrorism and deploy their troops in an illegitimate way in Syria and are aggressive toward Syria.
Al-Jaafari said a French colonel, part of the illegal international coalition, has admitted that the US-led coalition had largely destroyed infrastructure in Syria, causing the martyrdom and injury of thousands of civilians, Iran Press reported.
The goal of that illegal coalition was not combating terrorism, but targeting the Syrian state’s capabilities and prolonging the war imposed on it, al-Jaafari said.
He added that some UN member states are augmenting their political terrorism against Syria with economic terrorism through imposing unilateral sanctions, and other coercive measures against Damascus.
Al-Jaafari wondered how those who claim to support humanitarian causes in Syria, ignore the need for coordination and cooperation with the Syrian government.
He went on to say that a number of states still obstruct the return of displaced Syrians to their towns which have been liberated and link development and humanitarian work to politicized conditions which contradict principles of humanitarian work.
Al-Jaafari wondered how Western states claim to fight terrorism while they refuse to stop recruiting this terrorism politically.
The Syrian ambassador to the UN said Syria calls for true cooperation on humanitarian issues according to resolution No.46/182 with commitment to its sovereignty and putting aside the obstructive external factors.
In further comments, Al-Jaafari said Syria has opened up two humanitarian corridors to provide a safe passage for the besieged people of al-Rukban camp which is occupied by US forces where terrorists affiliated to the US are deployed.
Al-Jaafari added: "Syria wants to end the suffering of residents of al-Rukban camp. Most residents want to return to state-controlled areas, and Syria calls for ending the US troops’ illegitimate presence there, as well as the presence of terrorist gangs."
Al-Jaafari said the UN Security Council should prevent the use of humanitarian issues as a smokescreen to destabilize states and interfere in their domestic affairs, something which is sadly happening in Venezuela today. 101/202/211
