Tehran (IP)- Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a telephone conversation with "Pope Francis", the leader of Catholics said that supporting the oppressed people of Palestine today is the practice of the teachings of all Abrahamic religions, including Christianity.

Iran PressIran news: Raisi appreciated the position of the Catholic leader on the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and asked "Pope Francis", considering his position in the West, while reminding the Western countries that support the regime, to speed up the cessation of these crimes, and play a role in correctly explaining the position of the oppressor and the oppressed.

He went on to say that the terrible and unprecedented crimes of the usurper Israeli regime in martyring nearly 10,000 people, including 4,000 children and 2,500 women, is the biggest genocide of the century, and added, “What response can the countries supporting the regime have to the people of the world in the face of these shocking crimes?”

Iran's President described the Zionists' crimes against the oppressed women and children of Gaza, including the attack on al-Mamadani Hospital and the Jabalia camp, as a clear example of crimes against humanity, and referred to the report of international institutions regarding calling the Israeli regime an apartheid one, and stated, “The bombing of the Gaza church and the destruction of this historical heritage of the Palestinian nation is one of the examples of apartheid practices not only against Palestinian Muslims but also against other divine religions, which is carried out with the support of American and several European countries.”

The President further emphasized the principled policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards the oppressed people of Gaza and the use of all diplomatic capacities to immediately stop the attacks and send humanitarian aid to this region.

In another part of the conversation, Raisi described the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Vatican as very good on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of relations, and referring to the freedom of action of Christians in performing religious practices and enjoying all the rights of citizens in the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said, “Not only the Christians of Iran but also the Christians of the region in Armenia, Iraq, and Syria consider the Islamic Republic of Iran as their refuge and we defend not only the rights of Muslim nations but also the rights of Christians.”

In the telephone conversation, Pope Francis, the leader of the world's Catholics, while appreciating the positions of Raisi in supporting the oppressed people of Palestine, emphasized the need to try to stop the attacks on Gaza and establish a ceasefire in the region and said, “As the leader of the world's Catholics I will do everything in my power to stop these attacks and prevent more women and children from becoming victims in Gaza.”
