Initial reports pointing to an explosion heard in the vicinity of Syria's capital Damascus.

Iran Press/Middle East: An explosion was heard in the vicinity of Syria’s capital Damascus on Sunday morning, and initial reports point to a terrorist attack.

According to the Reuters news agency quoted from Syrian state TV, there were injuries but there are no further details.

Syria has been able to purge ISIS and other terrorist groups from most of the country with support from Iran and Russia as well as the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah.

On the other hand, a war monitor said that the explosion occurred near a military intelligence office in Damascus and left a number of dead and wounded.

Yet, this information has not been confirmed by official sources.

Syria war, which began in March 2011, has killed hundreds of thousands of Syrians and dislocated thousands more while destroying most of the country’s infrastructure and industrial capacity.

Today government forces and their allies control most parts of Syria while anti-Damascus militants occupy just small pockets of territory on the country's fringes.
