Senate to cut off US aid to Lebanon

A member of the US Senate has proposed a plan to cut off aid to Lebanon over concerns that Hezbollah is benefiting from US taxpayer dollars.

Iran PressAmerica: The new legislation, introduced this week by Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Tex.), would stop more than $100 million in yearly contributions from going to Lebanon.

This plan would prohibit any assistance to Lebanon until the president certifies that Hezbollah is not a member of the government, does not exercise influence over it, and does not have power in any government ministries.

The bill is likely to garner GOP support, though its passage is not assured given widespread Democratic support for US foreign aid.

In a move to limit Hezbollah's activities, the Zionist Regime and the United States have been pressuring European countries over the past months to designate the group as a terror organization.

In parallel, Washington has also sanctioned some Lebanonies banks and individuals over their link with Hezbollah to reduce the group's popularity in Lebanon.
