Iran Press/Middle East: Satellite photos taken Wednesday show that an Iranian missile strike has caused extensive damage at the US airbase Ain al-Assad in Iraq.
The photos show hangars and buildings hit hard by a barrage of Iranian missiles that were fired early Wednesday morning local time.
A satellite photo from the commercial company Planet shows damage to at least five structures at the Ain al-Assad US airbase in Iraq.
At least five structures were damaged in the attack on the base in Anbar province, which was precise enough to hit individual buildings. "Some of the locations struck look like the missiles hit dead center," says David Schmerler, an analyst of the satellite images.
In the early hours of January 8, the IRGC's aerospace unit launched a successful attack against US forces in Ain al-Assad airbase in western Iraq and another in Erbil, in the north of the country.
The attack came in response to a US terrorist drone strike days earlier that martyred one of Iran's top Generals, the former Commander of IRGC's elite Quds Force, Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei described the attack as a “slap in the face” and Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called it a "proportionate measure" which came "in self-defense".

Shortly after the attack, US President Donald Trump claimed in a tweet: "All is well!"
Extent of US forces' casualties in Iraqi media
Iraqi television channel Etejah also disclosed other aspects of US military casualties at the US airbase.
It cited sources on the extent of US forces' casualties at Ain al-Assad base in Iraq, saying that the Iranian missiles had destroyed much of the base, including its main radars and runway.
"Some of the missiles also hit the entrance hall, which was a center for gatherings of the US soldiers, killing and injuring many of them. Several Apache helicopters and American fighter jets were also damaged in the missile attack," Iraqi television channel said.
Etejah also said that several explosions were heard from inside Ain al-Assad US base, adding that there had been further explosions caused by fires in US aircraft munitions depots.
Regarding the number of casualties, the Israeli Journalist Jack Khoury wrote in a tweet on Wednesday: "According to reports received by Haaretz, a US aircraft carrying American soldiers wounded by Iran's missile strike on Ain Assad Air Base landed in Tel Aviv hours ago. Based on informed sources, 224 injured soldiers were taken to Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center Hospital."
