South Korea has reported 84 new coronavirus cases for the third day in a row that the daily increase in new cases was below 100, bringing the country’s total infections to 8,320.

Iran PressAsia: According to the latest statistics by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday, this marks the third day in a row that the daily increase in new cases was below 100, compared with a Feb. 29 peak of 909.

President Moon Jae-in said on Monday he was increasingly confident South Korea would overcome the coronavirus as the rate of new infections continued to drop, although authorities noted another large cluster had emerged in the greater Seoul area, Reuters reported.

The new virus, that causes a respiratory disease known as COVID-19, emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province late last year. It has swept into at least 162 countries, infected more than 181,000 and killed at least 7,113 people worldwide, according to an estimate from Johns Hopkins University, which is tracking cases reported by the World Health Organization and additional sources.
