Russian president's special envoy for Syria and Iran’s foreign minister senior advisor on special political affairs met to discuss the latest developments in Syria, especially in the Eastern Euphrates and Idlib.

Iran PressEurope: Referring to the holding of the sixth round of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, Russian Special Envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev expressed hope that the meeting would yield good results.

Referring to the positive attitude of some countries towards the Syrian government and people, Iran’s foreign minister senior advisor Ali Asghar Khaji expressed hope that this would accelerate the delivery of humanitarian aid, reconstruction and the return of Syrian refugees to their country.

The sixth session of the Syrian Constitutional Committee began on October 18 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The idea of forming a Syrian constitutional committee was first raised at the meeting of the "Syrian National Dialogue Congress".

The Syrian National Dialogue Congress was held on January 29 and 30, 2018 in the Russian city of Sochi.

The agreement to hold the Syrian National Dialogue Congress was reached during the November 2017 summit of Iran, Russia and Turkey, the "guarantors of the Astana process" in Russia.

The Astana talks started in January 2017 with the initiative of Iran and the cooperation of Russia and Turkey, with the aim of establishing peace in Syria.

Iran, Turkey and Russia, as guarantors of the Astana process, are working to resolve the Syrian crisis.

The crisis in Syria began in 2011 with a massive offensive by terrorist groups backed by Saudi Arabia, the United States, and their allies to shift the regional equation in favor of the Zionist regime. 219
