Iran Press/ Iran news: The North-South International Corridor in the Islamic Republic of Iran provides the possibility of rail transit of goods from India and the Persian Gulf bloc to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Eastern and Northern Europe.
There is a rail connection from Shahid Rajaei port in Hormozgan province, south of Iran, to Rasht City, Gilan province, north of the country.
Rasht-Astara railway, with 160 km, was built to make a connection to the Caucasus region, Russia, and Europe.
"A train, including 36 containers, which departed from Russia to Saudi Arabia, arrived at the Inchehborun rail border," announced the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Miad Salehi.
Salehi added that the paperwork for the Russian train was done and it was sent to Bandar Abbas, a port city in Southern Iran to be transferred to Jeddah.
According to the agreement between Iran and Russia, the transit between the two countries should reach 50 million tons by 2023, while now there is only the possibility of 8 million tons of Russian goods transiting through Iran.
