Iran Press/Asia: Speaking on Thursday, Zamir Kabulov said that by such comments, Trump is likely to tell his voter advocates that he keeps his promises he made before the previous election.
The US now has a real opportunity to reduce its military presence in Afghanistan, Kabulov said.
There will be no problem with the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, the Russian envoy added, noting that the presence of the US troops has just worsened Afghanistan's situation.
"We should have the small remaining number of our BRAVE Men and Women serving in Afghanistan home by Christmas!" Trump tweeted on Thursday.
Trump's remarks came as White House National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien announced on Wednesday night that the United States will reduce troops in Afghanistan to 2,500 by the early next year.
The United States signed an agreement with the Taliban in February by the virtue of which the foreign troops will withdraw from Afghanistan by May 2021, and the Taliban is committed to negotiating a ceasefire and sharing power with the Afghan government.
