Moscow (IP) - Iran and Russia have made significant progress in their economic cooperation, particularly in the development of new oil fields in Iran, following a meeting of the Iran-Russia Economic Cooperation Joint Commission.

Iran PressEurope: Iran's Minister of Petroleum, Javad Owji, who heads the Iranian side of the commission, outlined the key agreements reached during talks with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and his successor, Minister of Energy Sergei Tsivilev. The commission reviewed the past three years of bilateral cooperation, covering various issues.

Currently, seven Iranian oil fields are being developed with Russian investment, contributing 220,000 barrels per day to Iran's oil production. The two sides also discussed Russian companies' investments in new Iranian oil fields.

In addition to oil development, the talks covered exports of oil and petrochemical products, as well as technology transfer. Iranian experts are providing Russian companies with expertise in the upstream and downstream sectors of the oil industry, while Russian companies are meeting some of Iran's oil and gas industry needs. The agreements reached in Moscow are expected to further deepen the economic ties between the two nations.
