Iran Press/ Europe: Mikhail Ulyanov tweeted on Monday that the limitation period for sending weapons to Iran would be terminated in seven categories on October 18.
The diplomat noted that the United States is working hard to extend this embargo, although there is no reason to inspect the relevant provisions of the JCPOA and UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
Ulyanov stated that it is expected that there will be heated discussions in the UN Security Council in this regard.
The arms embargo on Iran is once again on the agenda of the international community, the Russian diplomat tweeted.
In fact, the 2015 arms embargo on Iran has been lifted. Since then, the delivery of tanks, armored personnel carriers, artillery, aircraft, helicopters, warships and missiles to Iran has not been banned, but must be done with the consent of the UN Security Council.
The US Secretary of State has recently claimed that the United States is a participant in UNSCR 2231 and can call for an extension of Iran's arms embargo, contrary to its previous claims.
Russia, China, some European countries and Iran have stressed that this is a misconception of the resolution, and the United States explicitly stated on May 8, 2019, that it had ended its participation in the UN Security Council.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell also stressed that the United States was no longer a participant in the UN Security Council.
