Russia\'s Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov

Russia's Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna announced that the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency may visit Tehran next week.

Iran PressEurope: Mikhail Ulyanov, who is also Russia's permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency, wrote in a new tweet on Friday: According to knowledgeable mass media, the #IAEA Director-General Mr. Rafael Grossi may visit #Iran for the first time as early as next week.

"If this is true it would be a good opportunity to discuss and settle the problem of IAEA inspectors ’visit to 2 undeclared sites in Iran," Ulyanov added.

Iran and the IAEA have good cooperation, and so far the IAEA inspectors have conducted the most inspections of Iran in the world, but recently, based on alleged reports, the agency has made allegations about undeclared nuclear activities at two sites in Iran.

The agency said in a report that it wanted to inspect sites where small-scale research on nuclear material may have taken place as early as 2000.

All sanctions against Iran were suspended under the 2015 nuclear deal called JCPOA. After Trump's presidency, the US withdrew the deal two years ago and now the US secretary of state Mike Pompeo filed an official complaint with the president of the Security Council, accusing Iran of violating the 2015 nuclear deal.

The Director-General of IAEA intends to travel to Iran to resolve some of the ambiguities raised by this international body. Resolving issues between Iran and the IAEA could lead to further US isolation in pressuring the Security Council to reinstate sanctions against Iran.
