Following successful holding of parliamentary elections in Bangladesh, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has congratulated the re-election victory of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Awami League party.

Iran Press/Asia: In a message published on Wednesday, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated the successful holding of recent parliamentary elections in Bangladesh and the victory of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League party.

In his message, President Rouhani also expressed hope that given cultural and religious ties between the two nations of Iran and Bangladesh and the potentials of the two countries, bilateral relations between Dhaka and Tehran will further expand based on the mutual interests of the two nations, according to an Iran Press report.

At the end of his message, President Rouhani wished good health and success for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ruling center-left Awami League and her 12-party alliance have won the country's December 30, 2018, parliamentary elections, gaining 288 of 300 seats. The center-right Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the country's main opposition outfit, is contesting the results with Bangladesh's electoral commission. 103
