Iran Press/Iran News: Speaking at a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, the Adviser to the Islamic Revolution Leader on International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati emphasized the resistance of the great Syrian nation against the enemies, saying: "This resistance has strengthened the axis of resistance in the region and thwarted the plans of enemies.”
He stressed: "Undoubtedly, Syria has a fundamental and decisive role in the resistance front and has paid a considerable price for playing this role, and today, more than ever, it continues the path of dignity and independence with power while aware of enemies’ conspiracies."
He also referred to the recent terrorist act in assassinating Iran’s top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, emphasizing: "Without a doubt, we will avenge the blood of this high-ranking martyr sooner than some people think, and we will not allow the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran to feel comfortable and continue their crimes."
Velayati added: "The relationship between Iran and Syria in the 40 years since the Islamic Revolution has become stronger every day and by making strategic decisions it can continue to be more effective."
Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad also stressed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s valuable role in supporting the Syrian government and people, saying: "Iran and Syria have profound relations in various cultural, social, economic and political fields."
"The two incidents of the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani and the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, a nuclear scientist in Iran, caused great sorrow in the heart of the Syrian people and we are very sad about this issue," he added.
The Syrian Foreign Minister also praised the role of Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, in strengthening and expanding relations between the government and people of Iran and Syria, stressing that Iran, led by the Leader, has played an effective role in the region.
Faisal Mekdad arrived in Tehran last night to meet and consult with his Iranian counterpart and other Iranian officials.
Consultation on the latest bilateral, regional, international developments and drafting the Syrian constitution is one of the most important topics for the Syrian diplomat in his meetings with Iranian officials.
