Asia: In an end of year report, the foreign ministry of the Republic of Azerbaijan has said double standards on the norms of international law, military conflicts, ethnic differences and growing disputes between regional and global powers have fanned flames of tension in international relations.
According to an Iran Press report, the foreign ministry of the Republic of Azerbaijan went on to say: "In 2018, the Republic of Azerbaijan has promoted its ties with neighbouring countries on the basis of mutual respect in political, economic and cultural fields."
The Azerbaijani foreign ministry report went on to describe Iranian president Hassan Rouhani's and foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s visits to the country in 2018 as major events for Baku.
The report also cited the hosting of first quadrilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey and Georgia, as well as a trilateral meeting of Azerbaijan Republic, Iran and Turkey’s foreign ministers as among other major occasions in 2018.
Signing Convention of Caspian Sea Legal Regime was also a step forward in line with promoting cooperation among Caspian Sea littoral states, it said.
On December 25, Iranian president, in a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly of Republic of Azerbaijan, Ogtay Asadov, described the two countries relations as friendly and brotherly.
Hassan Rouhani in the meeting referred to the friendly, brotherly relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and stressed development of comprehensive relations between Tehran and Baku, accelerating implementation of agreements between the two countries. 103
