Iran Press/ Europe: The race to be the UK’s next Prime Minister is now down to 2- Liz Truss, the current Foreign Secretary, and the former Chancellor Rishi Sunak, whose resignation led to the start of backlash and the ultimate fall of Boris Johnson as the PM.
Either Truss or Sunak have set out some of their policies already. The candidates are trying hard to convince party members to back them.
In the first round of voting in the House of Commons, Sunak won the highest number of votes. Since then, the right wing of the party, with the support of Liz Truss, has been trying to prevent Sunak of Indian origin from reaching "ominous" 10 Downing Street.
The ballot will close at 17:00 BST on 2 September. The next PM will be announced on September 6.
The agendas of both the leaders have been set out to the public- with focus on tax cuts, leveraging a green economy, and both at the same time more than ever enthusiastic at scrapping the remaining EU laws - something to cheer for, at least for some Eurosceptic media.
British news media were also active in the debate. The Daily Mail newspaper, which is one of the right-wing media outlets in England and a supporter of Boris Johnson, has accused Rishi Sunak of "treason" against the government.
Efforts by the right wing of the Conservative Party, with the help of the Sun, Times, Daily Express, Daily Mail, and Daily Telegraph, to defeat Rishi Sonak have intensified. All recent polls point to the victory of Truss over Sunak.
Now the general members of the ruling Conservative Party of England have to vote for Boris Johnson's successor.
