According to an Iran Press report, president Hassan Rouhani met with president Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation on Sunday and stressed the importance of further development of Tehran-Moscow relations.
President Rouhani also said deepening of relations and cooperation benefits both nations. He added: “We should attempt to turn Caspian Sea into the sea of peace and friendship and a factor for further cementing of relations, cooperation and friendship”.
He added: “Bilateral and multilateral cooperation of Iran and Russia in different regional and international matters, including regional security and fighting terrorism and ISIS in Syria have had positive regional effects and this cooperation should continue until the full eradication of terrorism,” , as quoted by the official website of president Rouhani.
At the same meeting, President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation referred to the developing relations between the two countries and said: “Moscow is ready to further develop relations and cooperation with Tehran in areas of interest to both sides”.
Commenting President Putin also said: "With America's withdrawal, preservation and strengthening of JCPOA has become crucial"
He also described the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) an important international agreement and emphasised the importance of all parties’ efforts to keep the deal after America's unilateral withdrawal from it.
Also, Caspian Sea Legal Regime Convention was signed by Presidents of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on Sunday in Aktau, Kazakhstan, during the fifth Caspian Sea littoral states summit.
High-ranking officials of the five Caspian Sea littoral states also signed 6 cooperation documents in the presence of the heads of state of the five countries.
The first meeting of the Caspian states’ leaders was held in Ashgabat in 2002, and the other summits were convened in Tehran, Baku and Astrakhan.
The Caspian Sea is the largest inland body of water in the world and accounts for 40 to 44 percent of the total lacustrine waters of the world. The coastlines of the Caspian are shared by Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan.
President of the Islamic Republic of Iran left Kazakhstan, heading for Tehran after attending the Fifth Caspian Sea Littoral States Summit held on Sunday in the city of Aktau.
