New York (IP) - Cries of “free Palestine” rang out in New York City's Times Square on Friday, as thousands of protesters from different nationalities took to the streets to denounce the crimes of the Israeli regime against Palestinians in Gaza.

Iran PressAmerica: At least 1,799 Palestinians were martyred, and 6,338 others were wounded by the brutal Israeli airstrikes and missile attacks on the Gaza Strip, according to the Gaza-based health ministry.

Supporters of Palestine chanted slogans in support of the oppressed people of Gaza and also expressed their anger at the crimes committed by the Israeli regime against the defenseless people of Gaza and the silence of the international community.

Carrying Palestinian flags they called for an end to “Israeli occupation” and for the “liberation” of the Palestinian territories, the US support of the Israeli regime, protesters took up multiple blocks in a city that serves as a crossroads for religions and nationalities spanning the world.

The protesters carried with them the photos of the massacre of Palestinian children in Gaza.

The gathering coincides with the second meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the issue of Palestine, which ended without results.

The Jewish Voice for Peace advocacy group said thousands attended the rally in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Arrests have been made after protesters blockaded a street outside the New York City home of United States Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer to demand an end to “the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza”.

The New York Police Department’s press offices said that people were taken into custody but did not provide details on the number of arrests.

Schumer, the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in the US, is leading a bipartisan delegation of senators to Israel this weekend to express support for the war in Gaza.

“To have a bipartisan delegation, led by the majority leader saying strongly and unequivocally, ‘We’re with Israel’, is going to make a big difference to Israelis,” Schumer said ahead of his departure.

US President Joe Biden’s unconditional support for Israel's war on Gaza was also denounced by Arab, Muslim, and Palestinian rights advocates in the US who called attention to the “dehumanization” of Palestinian people by media outlets and politicians. Speaking at a news conference on Friday, the representatives of several advocacy groups in the US also sounded the alarm about the prospect of hate incidents against Arab and Muslim Americans.
