Iran Press/ Iran news: The water transfer system to Lake Urmia consists of a 36-kilometer transfer tunnel and an 11-kilometer canal, which has the ability to supply about 500 million cubic meters of water to Lake Urmia per year.
The trial operation of the system was carried out at the end of February of this year at the same time as Eid Mubarak, and it was successfully completed, and the tunnel and water transfer channel to Lake Urmia was ready for official operation by the president.
This system is the largest environmental project in the Middle East, which will be the beginning of helping to restore Urmia Lake, and after the operation of this plan, the other 19 projects of the Urmia Lake Restoration Headquarters will gradually enter the operational phase.
Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, who traveled to this city this morning (Friday) in order to inaugurate and operate the water transfer system to Lake Urmia, was welcomed by the representative of the Supreme Leader and Friday Imam of Urmia and the Governor of West Azerbaijan upon his arrival at Shahid Bakri International Airport.
