Iran Press/ Iran news: National Day, also known as Independence Day, is a Sri Lankan national holiday celebrated annually on 4 February to commemorate the country's political independence from British rule in 1948. It is celebrated all over the country through flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, and performances. Usually, the main celebration takes place in Colombo, where the President raises the national flag and delivers a nationally televised speech.
In a message to Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi congratulated the anniversary of Sri Lanka's independence.
He expressed hope that in line with the existing political will between the two countries leaders, the friendly relations and cooperation in various fields would expand.
Earlier, in a message, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian congratulated his Sri Lankan counterpart G. L. Peiris on the Independence Day of Sri Lanka.
"Thanks to close and friendly relations between the two nations and the favorable opportunities for cooperation in various fields, I am confident that in the future we will see further cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Socialist Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka, regionally and internationally," the message reads.
