Iran Press/ Iran News: The statement read that the Islamic Republic of Iran, while condemning the continuing military aggression of the so-called Coalition Forces in Yemen, emphasizes that this destructive and stupid war enters its sixth year with no result but the destruction and killing of innocent and oppressed people of Yemen. And through the destruction of infrastructure, it has made Yemen a ruinous country and life for its people as daily suffering.
"According to international organizations, 80% of Yemen's population, which means 25 million women and children in Yemen, are in dire need of humanitarian assistance," it added.
"This human tragedy is being committed under the shadow of the silence of the international community and with continually abusing of international law and human rights by transgressors," said the statement.
It added that the Cruel and inhuman sanctions and crimes have caused the catastrophic situation of the Yemeni people to be remembered as the world's greatest human tragedy of the century.
Elsewhere in the statement, it is said that the military aggression on Yemen continues as the US and some other countries not only have put a blind eye on the war crimes of the aggressive forces but also continue to sell arms and provide the aggressors with intelligence support and therefore they must be held accountable.
"Unfortunately, the United States has not been satisfied with such level of support, and it has increased its military presence in various areas of Yemen through unveiling its strategy in Yemen and is seeking to consolidate its military presence there," added the statement.
"This is while the United States has proven that its presence in any country in the region had nothing but insecurity and looting those funds. But in the end, the US will experience another defeat in Yemen and will leave while being humiliated."
"Since the very beginning of the war, the Islamic Republic of Iran has stressed that there would be no military option for the Yemeni crisis, so Tehran has offered its four-article plan at the early days of aggression, based on an immediate ceasefire, acceleration in sending humanitarian aid into the war-torn country, and the elimination of cruel siege together with holding intra-Yemeni talks and the formation of an inclusive national government."
"On this basis, the Islamic Republic of Iran, while backing the territorial unity of Yemen, insists that political solutions such as the Stockholm Agreement and its extension to all issues and areas in Yemen can contain the hope of achieving peace and stability throughout the country," it said.
Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing Ansarullah.
The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the Saudi-led war has claimed the lives of over 60,000 Yemenis since January 2016.
The war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.
Fear of coronavirus outbreak
Meanwhile, the Head of Yemen’s Supreme Revolutionary Committee Mohammed Ali al-Houthi called on the UN and its Security Council to act for stopping the Saudi coalition’s war on Yemen so that it could counter the coronavirus outbreak.
Hours after his request, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a message: "Today I am calling for an immediate global ceasefire in all corners of the world."
"It is time to put the armed conflict on lockdown and focus together on the true fight of our lives – the COVID-19 pandemic," he stressed.
Yemen is of the few countries where coronavirus has not spread, yet it is coping with such diseases as cholera, canine influenza, and diphtheria.
The UN has stressed on supplying clean water in Yemen to prevent coronavirus from entering the country.
