Tehran (IP) - The Head of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) announced that the fire on the Panama-flagged tanker called White Pearl was successfully extinguished.

Twenty-two of the ship's crew were rescued by Iranian rescue teams after the ship's captain requested assistance from the port authorities.

Attending a press brief on August 12, 2023, the head of PMO Ali-Akbar Safaei stated: All 22 Indian and Ukrainian crew members of the ship are safe and sound.

The official also said that Iran's maritime industry is facing a shortage of 4,600 seafarers and those interested in seafaring jobs can be employed in the Ports and Maritime Organization by studying in Nowshahr, Chabahar and Khark maritime colleges. 

Ali-Akbar Safaei went on to conclude that 1,500 billion Rials have been invested in Iran's ports and shipping industry.
