India (IP) - Thousands of Shia Muslims mourned the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain and his companions at Shia Jama Masjid Kashmiri gate in New Delhi of India on Saturday, July 29.

Iran PressAsia: The mourning rituals started from Shia Jama Masjid Kashmiri gate towards Dargah Punja Sharif Kashmiri gate in New Delhi, the capital of India.

Dressed in black, the mourners beat their chests and chanted elegies as they walked through the heart of the region's main city of Delhi on Saturday morning amid a heavy security arrangement.

Muharram is one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar when Muslims across the world perform rituals to mourn the martyrdom of Hussain Ibn Ali (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who got martyred in 680 AD at the Battle of Karbala, in Iraq.
