A senior Pakistani analyst says the US withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal officially known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is not a positive step and shows that an important power in the world flouts its international obligations.

Retired Lieutenant General, Talat Masood, said the US decision will convey a message that agreements do not have any importance in international relations.

He added that deciding to withdraw from a deal which was sponsored by the UN and five other countries will have a very negative impact in the sense that it shows that an important power in the world does not honour  international agreements.

The analyst went to say that one is not certain that if one makes an agreement with the US whether it will be honored or it will be rejected so it is a very bad precedent that President Trump has set.

He said Trump has also done this with trade agreements with Latin American countries and Canada. He added:  “So there is tendency on part of President Trump to flout international agreements but this was a very important agreement and this will also allow Iran to take an independent action."

The analyst said: I think Iranians are waiting for the response of European partners as to how they will conduct themselves, so we only hope that the European countries like Germany, France and Britain will not come under pressure and retain their independence and honour their agreement with Iran.

He said despite the IAEA reports the US is pursuing its own policy towards Iran nuclear deal under Zionist regime’s pressure and President Trump has always been leaning towards Israel.

“The decision was taken to please the Zionist lobby and his electorate which is very pro-Jewish,” Talat Masood viewed.

The analyst said obviously the decision by the United States would lead to weakening of confidence on diplomacy and the dialogue process.

“Now they are working very hard to have an agreement with North Korea and even if they do have such an agreement one doesn’t know what its future would be because the US does not honour its commitments,” he noted.
