Iran Press/Middle East: A coordinator for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Taher Hussein Andaraabi, in a letter to Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, has expressed OIC's serious concerns about the human rights situation in the occupied Golan, and the Donald Trump administration's 'recognition of Israel's sovereignty' over the Golan Heights.
The letter also referred to resolution 40/21 of the UN High Commission for Human Rights, and said the Trump administration has tried to legalise Israel's illegal half-a-century occupation of the Golan, and has effectively gifted Golan to Israel, something which doesn't belong to America or Donald Trump to give away as a gift, Iran Press reported.
The letter also pointed out that according to the United Nation's charter, international law, and UN security council resolutions 242, 338, and 497, this illegal move clearly violates Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
The letter also emphasized the illegal nature of Israel's occupation of Golan Heights, and the fact that there is no firm legal basis or justification for this occupation which has lasted more than half-a-century. The letter stresses that America's so-called 'recognition of Israel's sovereignty' does not change the legal status or situation of the Golan one iota.
OIC member states also called on all Unite Nations member states to respect UN security council resolutions, not to undertake any actions which violate UNSC resolutions, and also urged the Zionist regime to immediately comply with all UN security council resolutions, and to withdraw from all occupied Arab territories forthwith, including the Golan Heights.
US president Donald Trump signed a decree recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan at the start of a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on March.
Israel occupied the Golan Heights in June 1967, and formally annexed it in 1981, a move that has never been recognized by the international community. 101/211
