IP - North Korea on Thursday morning launched multiple short range ballistic missiles into the Japan Sea east of the Korean peninsula.

Iran Press/Asia: South Korea's Joint Chief of Staff said it had detected multiple "short-range ballistic missiles" fired early Thursday morning from Pyongyang into the East Sea(Sea of Japan).

South Korea's JCS said that the missiles flew around 360 kilometers, adding that it is sharing information with allies Tokyo and Washington.

Japan also confirmed the missile test, with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida saying the country had “already protested with North Korea”.

It is Pyongyang’s first ballistic missile test since July 1 and comes days after Pyongyang marked the key anniversary of its foundation day.

At a speech to mark the 76th anniversary of its founding this week, leader Kim Jong Un said the country was moving to steadily increase its nuclear arsenal.

North Korea "will steadily strengthen its nuclear force capable of fully coping with any threatening acts imposed by its nuclear-armed rival states", Kim said.
