The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Friday that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) carried out a significant test of its latest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the Hwasongpho-19, on Thursday.

Iran Press/Asia: The missile flew a distance of 1,001.2 km for 5,156 seconds before landing on a preset area in the open waters off the country's east coast, and the test fire had no negative effect on the security of neighboring countries, the KCNA report said.

The test updated the recent record of the DPRK's strategic missile capability and demonstrated the modernity and credibility of the country's powerful strategic deterrent. The latest strategic weapon system will function as "the primary core means" in defending the country, the KCNA said.

Kim Jong Un, the General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), oversaw the event, describing the test-fire as "an appropriate military action." He emphasized that it demonstrates the country's resolve in response to the escalating security situation on the Korean Peninsula and is part of "an indispensable process" in the ongoing development of the DPRK's strategic attack capabilities, according to the report.

Citing "the security situation and the increasing threats and challenges" faced by the country, the leader of the DPRK emphasized the importance of enhancing modern strategic attack capabilities and improving the nuclear force's response posture. He reaffirmed that "the DPRK would never change its policy of strengthening its nuclear forces," as noted in the report. 219
