Bauchi (IP) - Sunni Muslims in Bauchi State joined their Shi'a brothers on Wednesday in a protest against burning the holy Qur'an in Sweden.

Iran PressAfrica: The protestors gathered at Ashura mourning ground in Bauchi town chanting anti-Swedish slogans, most holding the holy book.

The special guest in the gathering who came from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sheikh Salamul Ali, who is the head of Shahid Sadr Hauwza in Qom, commended the protestors and also drew the attention of the world to the importance of the holy Quran to Muslims so that to understand the danger of desecration of the holy book.

The Head of Shahid Sadr Hauwza said on the eve of the Ashura massacre, Imam Husain spent the whole night in his tent while reciting the holy Quran and saying prayers.

This shows how important Qur'an is to all Muslims.

In an interview with Iran Press shortly after the protest, one of the participants, Malam Habib Abdullahi, said, "Today we gathered both Sunni and Shi'a brothers here to condemn the burning of the holy Qur'an.

The Holy Quran is our red line. Therefore, we cannot stand and let any person who tries to cross it. Malam Isa Bello, another participant who also talked to Iran Press, said Shi'a and Sunni Muslims have converged together to protect the holy Quran, irrespective of their differences.

"Whatever happens to the holy Quran, we keep aside our differences. We come together so that we uphold the holy Qur'an, Bello said. Muslim nations have expressed outrage since last month Salwan Momika desecrated the holy book in Stockholm capital of Sweden.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has denounced the burning of the holy Qur’an in Sweden, calling for the united stance of Muslims and world freedom seekers against desecration of the holy book of Allah."

The Qur'an is shining more brightly every day, and the future belongs to Islam despite the arrogant powers’ plots. All freedom-seekers of the world should stand by Muslims in confronting the wicked plot of insulting sanctities and spreading hate,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
