Iran Press/Africa: According to a statement on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke in his capacity as the Chairman of ECOWAS during a briefing by the President of ECOWAS Commission, Jean-Claude Brou, in New York on Thursday.
According to africannews, “Since we don’t want to be big for nothing. We will always look for the money,” Buhari said while pledging Nigeria’s continued financial commitments to the sub-regional body.
The President was brought up to speed with developments in Guinea Bissau, where elections will be held soon; Togo, where constitutional reforms are in place, and which would hold parliamentary elections on December 20; as well as Mali, where the political situation is still fragile, despite concluding presidential polls recently.
He directed Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, to join the President of ECOWAS Commission on a special mission to deepen the peace process in Mali.
Buhari commended the work being done by ECOWAS Commission, noting that “it is always better to talk and resolve issues, rather than be confrontational."
