The new Austrian chancellor Alexander Schallenberg and the country's new Foreign Minister Michael Linhart were sworn in by Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen.

Iran PressEurope: The ceremony was held at the presidential office at the Hofburg Palace, RIA Novosti reports.

Earlier, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said that he was resigning amid an investigation by the prosecutor's office into a corruption case.

He proposed Schallenberg as his successor.

Schallenberg was born on June 20, 1969, in Bern (Switzerland) into the family of Wolfgang Schallenberg, an Austrian diplomat (ambassador) of noble origin.

He grew up in India, Spain, and France, where he was due to his father’s business trips. A lawyer by training, he studied at the universities of Vienna and Paris. Since 1997 he has been working in the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
