Tehran (IP) - The eighth round of Vienna talks on lifting anti-Iran sanctions will resume today (Monday) after a three-day break.

Iran PressIran news: Negotiations were suspended for three days from Thursday, December 30, due to the New Year holidays, but during these three days, consultations and exchange of texts continued in informal meetings with delegations based in Vienna.

Ali Bagheri-Kani, the senior negotiator of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while assessing the negotiations in the eighth round as "positive," said on Thursday evening: "In several areas, talks and interactions continued, and relatively good progress was made on the issue of lifting sanctions."

With the start of the eighth round of talks between Iran and the P4+1 (Russia, China, Britain, France, and Germany), the two sides entered into substantive discussions in all four areas of lifting sanctions, nuclear commitments, guarantees, and verification.

The negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Iran has presented two new drafts in this round of talks, one on the effective lifting of sanctions and the other on Iran's nuclear commitments.

Accordingly, the implementation of nuclear obligations will be subject to lifting oppressive sanctions against Iran.

Regarding the guarantees and verification, the Iranian delegation has presented its initiatives and suggestions and is waiting for the opinions and ideas of other parties.

Despite recent developments and the acceptance of Iran's proposals for the effective lifting of sanctions and the need for guarantees for its implementation and non-violation by the United States, but still, some demands of the US and the lack of seriousness of the West prevent the acceleration of negotiations.

In an interview with The New Yorker, US Special Representative for Iran, Robert Mali claimed that Iran was using its ballistic missile program to threaten its neighbors and that the United States was concerned about the delivery of Iranian weapons to its militias in the region.

"Iran's missile program has become a more immediate threat than its nuclear program," said Kenneth McKenzie, commander of US Central Command (Centcom).

Such claims during the negotiations in Vienna, and in a situation where, according to the parties, a positive negotiation process and progress in the dialogue have taken place, can indicate demands and goals outside the subject of the negotiations.

Of course, Iran has always rejected and emphasized that it will never discuss issues outside the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), especially the issue of its defense and missile capabilities.

Therefore, the Western parties, including the United States, which is witnessing the serious and continuous presence of the Iranian delegation in Vienna, as well as Iran's practical ideas and initiatives to conclude the negotiations, must take a serious and constructive approach.

Accordingly, the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Iran expects the representatives of Western countries to be serious in presenting their views and ideas from today, with the resumption of talks in Vienna.
