Baghdad (IP) - Muslim Ulema Union in Iraq's Diyala province in a statement called NATO's decision to increase its forces in Iraq an occupation.

Ran PressMiddle East: Muslim Ulema Union in Iraq's Diyala province issued a statement Friday protesting the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) decision to increase the number of its troops in Iraq, according to the Al-Maalouma website.

Any increase in NATO forces in Iraq is not acceptable, and there is no justification for it, the statement said. Our country has many military forces that can repel any terrorist threat against the security of the citizens.

Muslim Ulema Union in Iraq's Diyala province stressed that NATO's decision has several goals: to try to occupy Iraq under the name of an international organization by the United States because the majority of NATO forces are Americans.

Referring to last year's resolution of the Iraqi parliament on the withdrawal of foreign troops, the statement stressed that this resolution was the whole people's decision. Any decision to increase foreign forces is a violation of Iraqi national sovereignty.

Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary-General, recently said that the organization was looking to increase its forces in Iraq from 500 to 4,000.
