Africa (IP) - Muslims in all parts of Nigeria have joined their counterparts in some countries to celebrate the 2023 Eid al-Fitr which marks the end of the month-long Ramadan fast.

Iran PressAfrica: On Thursday night, the head of the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaj Saad Abubakar declared Friday as Eid al-Fitr after sighting the new Shawwal crescent in some Northern States which include Borno, Yobe and Katsina State.

In Bauchi State, religious and political leaders gathered together with masses at Eid ground to conduct the Eid prayer.

After the prayer, the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaj Dr. Rudhwan Sulaiman Adamu led the celebration in which they conducted a procession from the Eid ground to his Palace.

During the celebrations, the Emir of Bauchi in traditional and ancient attire riding a horse led thousands of people, many of them riding horses and camels to celebrate the Eid.

In some of the Muslim countries, the Eid al-Fitr will be on Saturday because the moon, marking the holy month of Shawwal, was not sighted on Thursday, prompting the announcement of Saturday as the day of the Eid celebration.

The countries to observe Eid on Saturday include Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Philippines, Islamic Republic of Iran among others.
